This growing community is a hospitable, warm small town full of peaceful charm. The downtown area is lined with locally-owned specialty eateries and shops. Orland is close to Chico for easy access to plenty of suburban amenities. Ideally located near the Sierra Nevada and coastal range foothills, Orland locals can reach fantastic spots for camping, snow sports, and hunting. With the Sacramento River and Black Butte Lake nearby, Orland’s nature lovers have miles of shoreline for boating, fishing, and water sports. The town conveniently boasts highway access for easy travel to Oregon, the Bay Area, and San Francisco.
Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping
Orland’s food and wine scene is thriving, full of delicious eateries and specialty food shops. Housed inside a beautifully restored turn-of-the-century gentlemen’s bar, Farwood Bar and Grill is a longtime Orland establishment. Inside, diners can find a gleaming oak bar and several original pieces from the grill’s heyday. This eatery serves hand-cut steaks, quality seafood, and the finest local wines. Open for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch, The Hive is a family-owned and operated restaurant serving fresh, farm-to-table dishes. This eatery also features a coffee shop selling specialty coffees, pastries, and homemade ice cream.
Boutique winery Raging Bull Vineyard offers vineyard tours and tasting room sessions. The locale is also an excellent spot for private events, as the beautiful vineyard grounds provide a picturesque backdrop. Pair your wine with quality cheese from Sierra Nevada Cheese Company. This favorite local spot processes and sells natural goat and cow dairy products like butter, yogurt, and cheese. All the dairy products used by the shop come from family farms. Another great spot is Pedrozo Diary and Cheese Company, which produces and sells milk and cheese from grass-fed cows.
Things to Do
Orland is a great spot for adventurers and outdoor lovers. Black Butte Lake Recreation Area is an expansive natural space with access to fishing, boating, and other water sports. The sprawling park has trails for hiking and biking, as well as several camping sites.
Explore Orland’s deep ties to the honey and beekeeping industry at Honeybee Discovery Center, located in downtown Orland. This museum center has displays and interactive exhibits that showcase the life of honeybees and the process of honey manufacturing.
Each summer, Orland residents celebrate the Old Fashioned 4th of July at Vinsonhaler Park with a festival open for all ages. There are games, concessions, and a duck drop event for lots of exciting summer fun. Orland commemorates local volunteer firefighters at the Fireman’s Ball, held yearly at the Glenn County Fairgrounds. This community event includes dancing and a fireman’s grand march.
Late each fall, the Orland Craft Fair brings together over one hundred vendors eager to showcase their handmade, artisan goods for the community. Located in the downtown district, The Orland Art Center features a monthly rotation of fine art from local, national, and internationally known artists. The center also holds regular classes, workshops, and special events for art lovers.
